Shamanic Wisdom in the Pyramid Texts: The Mystical Tradition of Ancient Egypt, by Jeremy Naydler. To the Greek philosophers and other peoples of the ancient world, Egypt was regarded as the home of a profound mystical wisdom. While there are many today who still share that view, the consensus of most Egyptologists is that no evidence exists that Egypt possessed any mystical tradition whatsoever. Jeremy Naydler’s radical reinterpretation of the Pyramid Texts--the earliest body of religious literature to have survived from ancient Egypt--places these documents into the ritual context in which they belong. Until now, the Pyramid Texts have been viewed primarily as royal funerary texts that were used in the liturgy of the dead pharaoh or to aid him in his afterlife journey. This emphasis on funerary interpretation has served only to externalize what were actually experiences of the living, not the dead, king. In order to understand the character and significance of the extreme psychological states the pharaoh experienced--states often involving perilous encounters with alternate realities--we need to approach them as spiritual and religious phenomena that reveal the extraordinary possibilities of human consciousness. It is the shamanic spiritual tradition, argues Naydler, that is the undercurrent of the Pyramid Texts and that holds the key to understanding both the true nature of these experiences and the basis of ancient Egyptian mysticism.

Decoding the Great Pyramid, by Peter Lemesurier. This masterful full color study of the prophetic powers of The Great Pyramid of Giza brings more than a hundred visuals to enhance and expand the text into a highly commercial examination of mankind's greatest heritage. From the times of the early Greeks, mankind has looked at it and wondered what mystery could lie for so long, waiting to be revealed. In Decoding the Great Pyramid, Peter Lemesurier begins by revealing the extraordinary facts of the Great Pyramid's siting and design in a number of detailed charts covering everything from its most obvious reflections to the most obscure of its measurements. Then, aligning present day understanding of Egyptian culture with an historical understanding of the socio-religious climate of the times, he interprets these details in a way that is as intriguing as it is realistic. In the second part of the book the author examines the prophetic aspects of the Bible, and compares them with the prophecies found in the Great Pyramid, discovering remarkable similarities to passages in the Gospels and from the ancient Christian prophets, such as Isaiah. The corroborative nature of the various biblical texts examined leave us breathless with excitement. To those of us who go searching through maps of esoteric knowledge looking for some clue to the unraveled mysteries of man's existence his revelations are significant. To those who look at great works of art and feel their significance ring deep inside, his work is profound. Peter Lemesurier, born in 1936, has been a musician, jet pilot, trimariner, teacher and translator. He is the author of many books including 'The Armageddon Script', 'Beyond all Belief', 'The Great Pyramid: Your Personal Guide' and 'The Healing of the Gods'. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The Pyramids and the Sphinx, by Corinna Rossi. Presenting up-to-date research and all-new photographs and plans, this authoritative volume provides a fascinating study of the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza, as well as lesser-known pyramids and tombs from Saqqara to Meidum and Dashur. Superb photography gives students and armchair archaeologists an unprecedented opportunity to see, close-up, the remarkable design of grave goods such as jewelry and furniture, details of painted and carved reliefs, the awe-inspiring architecture of the pyramids, and the always fascinating statuary. A chronology at the beginning of the book outlines the different periods, from the Early Dynastic period (circa 3000-2650 BC) through the Greco-Roman period (332 BC-642 AD). A detailed map notes the significant archaeological sites. Organized chronologically, the book begins with a study of the Step Pyramid of Saqqara, masterpiece of the architect Imhotep who, in a groundbreaking practice, used stone for the construction of an entire tomb, rather than mud brick—a building technique that was to have a major impact on the architecture of ancient Egypt. Throughout the book, photographs and text highlight the artistry and skill that made these pyramids and temples such precious world treasures. Corinna Rossi completed a Ph.D. in Egyptology from Cambridge University and works with the Collegio di Milano. Her articles on ancient architecture have been widely published internationally. She is the author of Flying High Egypt.

Sticks, Stones, & Shadows: Building the Egyptian Pyramids, by Martin Isler. Presents an entirely original approach to the subject of pyramid building. This book reveals the connection between devices that served both a practical need for survival and a spiritual belief in gods and goddesses. Few have closely examined Egyptian technologies and techniques from the origins of pyramid development to the step-by-step details of how the ground was leveled, how the site was oriented, and how the stone was raised and placed to meet at a distant point in the sky. Pyramid building, according to the author, should be placed not in the context of only Ancient Egyptian technology, but rather in that of Near Eastern technology. This book is devoted to understanding the methods used by the Ancient Egyptians to build the pyramids. Numerous illustrations and excellent evidence complete this professional, believable and backed-up discussion, which will be of much use to interested readers.

Egyptian Art in the Age of the Pyramids, by James P. Allen. The Egyptian Old Kingdom (c. 2650-2150 BC) was an era of extraordinary artistic achievement-the period that gave us the Sphinx and the pyramids as well as a rich legacy of private tombs, wall paintings, reliefs, statuary, jewelry, and decorative arts. This book, the companion volume to a major traveling exhibition organized by New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Louvre in Paris, showcases the most impressive assemblage of Egyptian art and artifacts since the Tutankhamun exhibition of the late 1970s. Scholarly essays and 650 illustrations bring to life a remarkable panoply of Old Kingdom objects-temple and tomb reliefs, striking gold jewelry, handsome stone vessels, monumental statues, stelae, and exquisite statuettes. Together, text and images create a stunning tribute to the world of the Pharaohs. 650 illustrations, 500 in full color, 9 x 12" Dorothea Arnold is Lila Acheson Wallace Curator in Charge of the Department of Egyptian Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is the co-author of The Royal Women of Amarna: Images of Beauty from Ancient Egypt and editor of Ancient Art from the Shumei Family Collection, both published by the Museum.

Dr. DeSalvo also provides some insight to the never before published work of Russian and Ukrainian researchers into pyramid effects. As Director of The Great Pyramid of Research Asociation, he has given the opportunity to many independant researchers to get some of their work in print and seen by many people--this is a wonderful service. Building the Great Pyramid, by Kevin Jackson, Jonathan Stamp, and the British Broadcasting Corporation. The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the oldest and sole-surviving member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and has inspired more specuation than any other building on Earth. Using state-of-the-art computer graphics, Building the Great Pyramid brings the world of Fourth Dynasty Egypt to life and shows how and why this most extraordinary of all human monuments was built. Equipped only with the most basic tools, how were ancient Egyptians able to achieve such an extraordinary degree of accuracy in its construction? How were stones, some weighing as much as 40 tons, hauled into position so precisely? What was life like for the conscripted laborers who built it, and how long did it take them to complete their task? Only now, at the beginning of the twenty-first century, is it possible to provide answers. The authors trace the history of the exploration of the Giza site, from the earliest Greek and Roman travelers, through to Jean-François Champollion's cracking of the hieroglyphic code; and the work of scholars such as Auguste Mariette and Sir William Flinders Petrie in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The final chapter covers less orthodox theories and looks at how the Great Pyramid has become a magnet for all manner of charlatans, heretics, and cranks.

The Maya: Palaces and Pyramids of the Rain Forest, by Henri Stierlin, Anne Stierlin (Photographer). The author and editor Henri Stierlin has based his presentation of these most remarkable examples of Mayan architecture on the latest findings from excavations in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Belize. Cities have been rediscovered in the depths of the rain forest, along with soaring pyramids, mysterious tombs, palaces with frescoes and steles. Particularly intriguing is the fact that, although this very advanced civilisation evolved completely separately from that of the "Old World", the architectural parallels are astonishing. Only very recently has it been possible to decipher Mayan hieroglyphics to any great extent. This new research is used to full advantage by this volume as a key to unlock the mystery of Mayan architecture.
